I went to a job in Midway, Utah a few days ago. when the homeowners told me the situation and how long the water had been in the area I was sure there was going to be mold. The actual flood was not that large. Less than 200 sq ft. when I began removing base I was shocked to see that there was not a trace of mold on the base or the sheetrock underneath. The water did come in the window well and being an exterior wall its more than likely to have insulation. So I probed under the base line to make sure the insulation had not been affected. It was wet. So I made a flood cut on the base line and when I removed the sheetrock is when I discovered the plastic barrier between the rock and the framing. And sure enough the lower framing was covered in mold. The plastic acted as a barrier. And that’s why the mold was not on the rock or base. Now the simple water damage turned into a mold removal.
